Godzilla Vs. Kong Review

Godzilla Vs. Kong kept me entertained throughout its around 2-hour runtime. The plot continued to move forward, and I didn’t feel bored at any point. This movie you go into to see Kaiju action, which it delivers. Though the plot somewhat predictable, you don’t go to this movie to see some significant twist ending, just Kaiju’s fights.

There were some great scenes with Godzilla and Kong roaring at each other. Each fight felt unique and was glued to the screen. They didn’t shy away from showing a winner either. I appreciated this because I didn’t want to have the ambiguous “tie,” let’s team up later.

Kong was the titan star of the show. The film did a good job humanizing kong. So much so even as a Team Godzilla guy, I could feel myself rooting for Kong at times. I could have used a little more Godzilla screentime.

The human characters did a good job moving the plot forward. My favorites were Jia, the girl with a special connection to kong, and Bernie, the corporate conspiracy theorist with an element of truth. Jia and Kong’s relationship helped me as the audience bond with kong. Whereas Bernie was entertaining throughout with his corporate truths about Apex, but his far-out conspiracies about tap water.

During the Godzilla & Kong Vs. Mecha Godzilla fight, I was annoyed with them cutting to the kids working on the hacking. It felt like an interruption to a great fight scene. Godzilla and Kong had an incredible team-up moment, including batting Mechagodzilla back and forth, Godzilla shooting kongs ax with his atomic breath, and the prominent Kong showing up in the knick of time to save Godzilla.

If you like Kaiju action, Godzilla Versus Kong does not disappoint. Don’t expect to have some deep human plot. Sit back and enjoy the titan’s duel.
