As an old-timer in the pokemon franchise, I was intrigued when first seeing Pokemon: Arceus’s trailer. A change-up in the pokemon formula being a more open-world sounded too good to be true. Though the design is multiple hubs rather than an open world, I’ve been enjoying my first 15 hours in Pokemon Arceus.
I frequently find myself exploring different areas to catch new pokemon and complete the newly changed Pokedex. There are various challenges for each pokemon. Choosing if I want to fight with my pokemon or try to sneak up and catch a wild pokemon without battling is a welcome change. Also, as I catch pokemon and battle, my whole party leveling helps keep the party balanced. It is the most fun I have had catching pokemon in a long time. The last Pokemon game I played was heart gold, as mainly a Gen 2 and Gen 1 fan.
This pokemon game is the most challenging pokemon game I can remember. Alpha pokemon can wipe out your whole part if not careful. As well as, the rift zones, which have pokemon not ordinarily available, can gang up on your party of pokemon if not careful. It has been highly engaging and fun, and finding random items for the basic crafting system has also been enjoyable. The graphics haven’t affected my enjoyment but are underwhelming.
My first 15 hours of the game have been delightful as an old-time fan. Suppose you are a pokemon fan and like the open-world design of games like Breath of the Wild. Pokemon: Arceus is a game you should pick up.
