Spider-Man Miles Morales Review

Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5 reminded me of what made the original Spider-Man game on PS4 so special. The traversal mechanics are always fun, and I barely felt the need to use the fast travel system. The main story, which took me less than ten hours to complete, had emotional beats and captured the struggles of becoming Spider-Man.
I was excited to learn more about Miles as a character, especially in comparison to Peter Parker, who was on vacation. Miles’ sidekick, Genke, provided helpful guidance at Miles’ home and had humorous interactions, which helped to show that they were both teenagers. Miles’ venom powers were superb and had a lot of depth, even though I used the same combos repeatedly, reflecting my play style. The stealth elements were always enjoyable, and I felt powerful webbing up crooks or setting remote mines for them to walk into.
The only game aspect I didn’t enjoy was the puzzles, and they took me out of the action and felt unnecessary, like padding.
Overall, I recommend Spider-Man: Miles Morales to anyone who enjoyed the first Spider-Man game, especially at the discounted price of $40. The game reminded me of why I loved the original so much, and it made me wish that more companies would create minor spinoff games of their main games more often, given how expensive games are to make now. These spinoff games also tend to respect your time more and have better pacing for the story.
