The Suicide Squad Review

James Gunn’s The Suicide squad was a fun, well-paced film throughout. You could see what themes James Gunn pulled from the Guardians and the Galaxy movies. The whole casting in the movie felt right, with the right amount of humor, style, and violent action.
The film begins with a fakeout with a set of heroes, cast with accomplished actors, moving on to the main cast. Bloodsport was a standout for me in the main cast, and he wasn’t the typical “I want to help my daughter antihero,” which was refreshing. Amanda Waller and John Cena’s the Peacemaker were other standout cast members.
The plot wasn’t overly complex and wasn’t too hard to follow, though the one freedom solider having their whole family/friends killed then working with them didn’t work for me. It was funny at first but didn’t jive with me. The movie had a lot of moments that made me laugh out loud and a great soundtrack. I would recommend checking out this movie for anyone who is a fan of Guardians of a Galaxy or the DC universe or any violent action fans that like dark humor. It has been a while since I watched the first Suicide Squad, but this film’s tone feels what the original wanted to do. The Suicide Squad is a fun film with great violent action and a soundtrack with lesser-known DC characters; welcome to whatever DC extended universe is now.
